MEDICINAL VALUE OF SCENT LEAF: In our midst today in the West African region is a medicinal plant called Scent leaf. It is dark green in colour with partly smooth, partly coarse texture. The Yoruba people of the Southern Nigeria call it Efinrin(pronounced: r.r.r.); the Ibos of the South East Nigeria call it: Nchianwu(pronounce: Chan-wu); the Hausa call it : Buntiri Dooyarta.. It is a vegetable with a lot of medicinal value. Rich in attractive steam and odour when boiled to 100 percent centigrade. It ais a double edged vegetable. It is acidic in taste but alkaline in functions. Among the medicinal values if scent leaf are as follows: (1) It Kills mouth odour: To treat mouth odour, all that the person need to do is to chew a sizeable quantity of scent leaf. Let it stay in your mouth for some minutes before you swallow it. Continue doing this for sometime, it will kill the germs responsible for the odour. (2) To treat stomach metals: Cut scent leaves into pieces. Cook it properly until the water becomes deep green. By that time, the scent in it will be coming out to fill the near environment. Drink the water especially when it is hot or warm. It cleanses the stomach of metals and other acidic remnants in the body.(3) To heal wound: Scent leaf is an antibiotic used to heal wound. To use it for healing wound, squeeze the water from the leaf. Apply the water to the wound. Use the wet leaf as a bandage to the wound. Use plaster or crepe bandage to fasten it to the affected oart. The wound would be healed within a couple of days as you continue to apply it. (4) As a Blood Purifier: Scent leaf is a blood purifier. Drinking of the water of the cooker scent leaf is a good way to remove antibodies from the blood. It also reduces cholesterol from the body. (5) To stop Blood Flow: Whenever there is any injury that results to the continuous flow of blood, apply scent leaf to it by squeezing it on to the affected part. The blood gushing out will stop instantly. (6) As Food Ingredients: Scent leaf is a good ingredient. The Chinese and Indians who know it hardly prepare food without applying it. They call it palsy leaf. Also, in Nigeria, it is a rich ingredient in preparing pepper soup. It is very delicious and highly nutritious. With all these values, always ensure you have scent leaf as a necessary ingredient in your menu.
